Ma terial and Appa ra tus,(a) Diatomaceous earth.—Preferably analytical grade. If,commercial grade is used, wash with HCl, then with H2O to remove,acid, and dry in oven at ca 105°C. (Material should give negative test,for acid when moistened.),(b) Moisture dish. —Al dish 25 high 义 75 mm diameter, with,cover.,(c) Pes tle.—Flat-end glass stirring rod ca 60 mm long.,B. De termina tion,Place 10 g diatomaceous earth in moisture dish containing pestle,and dry to constant weight. Accurately weigh ca 5 g corn syrup or,dextrose in nickel scoop, dilute with ca 5 mL H2O, and add to,Filter-Cel. Wash scoop with three 2 mL portions H2O and add,washings to Filter-Cel. Thoroughly incorporate solution with,Filter-Cel by means of pestle, yielding damp workable mass.
